Don Wesley Senior User Experience Designer Seattle
My Expertise
I turn complex workflows into engaging and intuitive user experiences for your customers. I am blessed with a conceptual and analytical brain, meaning that I can inspire your customers while working harmoniously with our development team to deliver quality and effective solutions. I can self-manage or direct an entire team through planning, design and final production of a product.
Processes: Waterfall and agile development.
Deliverables: Envisioning, requirements gathering, concept sketches, workflows, wireframes, prototyping, ad-hoc and usability testing, final composites, graphic assets, redlines, and UI specifications.
Products: Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator, Microsoft Expression (Blend, Design, and Web), Visual Studio, SharePoint, Visio, and PowerPoint.
Key Recent Projects
CFE / HRIT, Microsoft Corporation: UX designer, staff, Apr 2010 to present.
Annual Process Integration: Successfully integrated two historically disparate user experiences to reduce employee and manager time spent on the annual commitment setting and performance review process. Key innovations include an all-up manager view of the tasks and related statuses of their direct reports, seamless online commitment authoring and management, integrated career development and learning plan, and quick access to employee information and performance history along with contextually related tools and content.
SMSG Readiness Gadget: Solved one of enterprise sale’s most common challenges; how to find useful and timely information in one place while moving through the sales stages. I designed a one-stop desktop gadget that provided training and content sources related to the agent’s sales cycle, products, and competition. Today there are over 4,000 agents regularly using the Readiness gadget to streamline their searches for related content.
HRWeb Homepage: Designed the interaction model and layouts for the new Microsoft internal human resources website, including spotlights for company and org level events, life and career event guide directories, and the ability for employees to ask HR questions that are more specific than the site’s general content can answer.
Dynamics, Microsoft Corporation: UX designer, contractor (Volt), Aug 2009 to Apr 2010.
Online Seller Experience: Created layouts, interaction concepts and interactive prototypes for user testing for Microsoft Dynamic’s online seller experience that connects and processes customer inventory from their ERP system to self-designed or 3rd party online consumer sales environments. Key features designed include marketplace set up and store design, inventory management and pricing, and payment and shipping setup.
MSN, Microsoft Corporation: UX designer, contractor (Aquent), Jan 2008 to Jan 2009.
Project Skye Personal Portal: Participated in the envisioning phase, then carried the design through to final proof of concept for a new MSN personal portal experience, that could be used by partners to co-brand for their own content modules and advertising. Skye was also a sandbox for gadget level security on the web that still enabled gadgets to talk to one another.
Project Skye Gadgets: Envisioned and designed gadgets for the Skye experience which required cross-team collaboration with MSN content groups. The collection of gadgets included weather, stock, news, and gas price locator.
